iPhone experience: SSH terminal

Posted by: Mo J. Al-Mughrabi Add comments

G'day, This is just mind blowing and couldn't resist not sharing it with you guys. How to get your SSH terminal running on your iPhone. first of all you will need to install three application and you must do them in order.

1. BSD Subsystem (size 6.6 MB - Unix tool for the iPhone)
2. OpenSSH (size 696.3 KB - OpenSSH server & client)
3. Term-vt100 (size 81.1 KB - vt100 terminal app)

Once all the above is installed you will immediately find the terminal icon appears on your dashboard.

terminal on dashboard
(Above image you can see the term-vt100 appearing in the dashboard)

Using term-vt100
(Above image you see when the term-vt100 starts up you can switch to bash)

Have fun everyone,

    SaLam Moe,
well, i can’t deny that this IPhone is abnormaL device, good-Loking, styLish, wonderfuL technoLogy And Promising in media … but the main issue in this phone that stoped me of buying it .. there’s no 3G in IPhone, niether the Cam is 2 bad in quaLity compared with my new N95 ! yew may not feeL the rhythm in the phone without a cam, that serves yew when yew need it immediatLy in the hand, when yew’re out or something … i Love this N95 because of this option ! i don’t have to carry my digitaL cam where-ever i roam … i may just use my phone ;) … no wonder why this phone wasn’t pubLish or common that much in middLe-east because of those things maybe .. or maybe because there wasn’t arabic menu avaiLabLe LOL ..
    Cheers buddy ;)

    Hello!
I can’t download the vt100 terminal on my new 1.1.4 (everything else work). How do I go around this?

  4. Mo J. Al-Mughrabi Says:

You will need to download BSD Subsystem then OpenSSH because a dependency thing.

Yepp. That has been done, and ssh works fine. But not the terminal. But perhaps there will come a fix in a few days, I’ll just wait and see.

what is not clear to us who need SSH, Terminal for managing routers, firewalls, is this… Why didn’t Apple make it an application for download at the app store? If we use this method for installing these tools, does this “jailbreak” your phone? Does this potentially brick the phone or make it impossible to receive future software updates? What changes with your iPhone status regarding Apple or auto software updates?
